This lecture will explore prophylaxis and treatments for migraines including hormonal migraines, using both pharmacologic and non-pharmacologic approaches. Hormonal migraines are a unique migraine feature in women and therefore require additional considerations and treatments in their management. This lecture will focus on the natural medicine evidence-based botanicals/nutraceuticals and hormonal treatments for women with migraines. In addition, we will discuss the risks and benefits for estrogen containing contraception and hormone therapy in women with migraines.
