William Blake once wrote "to see the world in a grain of sand, and eternity in an hour". As Blake observed, there is something deeply satisfying and fascinating about the recurring and ceaseless patterns of nature. Ancient systems of medicine, energetic models of medicine, recognized these patterns in nature to be their own. They found the patterns of weather, trees branching, cloud formations and coastlines in their lungs, blood vesels and even moods. Through this observation of nature's patterns, modern scientists have come to recognize the fractal and, perhaps even more important, come to recognize that fractals offer deep insight into the patterns of the body, the patterns of our health and the patterns of disease.
